Finally, every horror fanatic’s favorite month has come around: October! The bugs are finally creeping back into the dark holes they crawled out of and more pumpkins are appearing on your neighborhood’s porches. It’s an anticipated month for most people, awaiting the famous holiday of Halloween.
While such an eventful holiday takes place this month, another creative and art-filled event takes place this month as well: Inktober. What exactly is Inktober? If you are taking an art class now, you’ve heard Mrs. Campbell and Mrs. Stodola share about the topic. In fact, both the art teachers are using the Inktober prompts for the warm-up sketch at the start of class.
Inktober is an event where anyone can join and create drawings with an ink pen. Every day this month, there is a new prompt to get the ideas flowing, a challenge to create an ink drawing that follows the theme. This event was created in 2009 by an artist named Jake Parker. It all originated from his desire to grow his inking skills and practice more regularly.
For the first time, the Columbus Student Art Council has decided to hold an Inktober Contest. It’s a local campaign created to bring artists together and encourage creativity in our community. By using the hashtag #CACInktober2023, you can enter your artwork through Facebook or Instagram and have it displayed on the CAC website. On the CAC website, you can view the prompts and other artist’s entries, as well as the top three entries of that week.
For the CAC Inktober contest, there will be three winners. The winners will be announced next month, and will receive prizes that consist of merch, a CAC membership, and their artwork exclusively displayed at the Columbus Public Library’s art section.
There are already numerous entries with all types of intricate and unique designs. The prompts are creativity-inducing and can be interpreted in any way. Grab your ink pens and join in on this year’s Inktober Contest!
