Winter sports are in full effect and swim team is excited to share their hopes, goals and achievements for this year.
Coach Joe Krepel’s goals for this season are to increase the size of the team, bring pride and excitement to the team and get multiple swimmers to state. Last year’s swimmer count was 17 and this year they have a whopping 20 to hopefully have more of a chance of getting to state and bring more of a team dynamic to the swimmers. Junior Mallory Brittenham’s goals for this season are to progress from 6 to 11 dives and grow individually as well as a part of the team.
Tryouts this year were described as great. Krepel said, “Most athletes have the needed skills to be on the team. We are seeing great growth from our new swimmers and divers”. Senior Conor Zobel-Stevens said, “Tryouts gave us a lot of good results. We have gone from two boys to eight and the girls team continues to grow and thrive in the best ways possible.”
Krepel is very optimistic about the rest of the 2024 season and is excited for who is on the team. “I think we are going to see tremendous growth this year,” Krepel says. Brittenham and Zobel-Stevens are both excited and nervous for the season, but also very hopeful and ready to get back into the pool.
Swim team’s final home event is Thursday, Jan. 18, at 4:30 against Omaha Westview at Columbus Aquatic Center.
