The beginning of the second semester had a snowy start! The CPS schools have called off four snow days so far this semester.
Columbus High School principal Mr. Hieber explained how Columbus has some flexibility. This school year, students only have 168 days of school, causing there to not be enough room and causing Dr. Loeffelholz to be strategic with the snow days.
To determine a snow day, the district looks at national weather services. Dr. Loffelholtz checks the night before. The school parking lots also have to be cleared and open and roads have to be safe for students and parents to drive on.
Students will now have school on Feb. 15 due to these snow days. Students have been asking why we have school on that day instead of adding it back to the end of the year. A reason why the day will be made up early is in case of more snow days later in the year. Senior students also need these extra days so they do not lose minutes and so they can graduate.
Students had fun during their snow days. Junior Madalyn Medinger was productive during her snow days. She crocheted, scooped snow, and worked out. Juniors MyKenna and Morgan Windle had a fun four snow days. The Windles went sledding, went to the gym, and watched movies.
