This last weekend was the Columbus Marching Festival in Columbus, Nebraska. This marked the 50th year of this event. There were multiple schools that competed in the parade and/or the field show. This was the first competition that Columbus High School band has gone to this year.
The parade had a total of 13 schools performing down 13th Street for about six blocks. About the Columbus High band Ally Gaver, a senior member of the marching band, said, “During the parade we did good and there were no major mistakes.”
The field show kicked off with a playing of the national anthem by some CHS band alumni. Then bands started to perform in order to reach the score they wanted. The Columbus HIgh marching band field show was described as going well with no vital mistakes made.
With the conclusion of the field shows came the drum-off between multiple schools’ drumline. The CHS drumline decided to do their drum-off in their homecoming attire with homecoming being that night. Like most of the day, their drum-off performance went without any big hiccups.
CHS did not get scored for anything because they were hosting the competition. It is still really good practice for the other competitions they will attend later in the season. Good luck to the marching band and the rest of their season.
