This past weekend was an eventful one in the world of Columbus High sports. Events ranged from a home cross country meet and an away football game on Friday to volleyball and softball games on Saturday.
The cross country home meet was a pretty successful day. The Columbus varsity boys finished 2nd and the girls varsity took 4th place. Melissa Gomez-Vazquez, Heydi Figueroa-Ramirez, Noah Edwards, Erick Alarcon and Damien Hendrickson all placed in the top 15 on either varsity or JV.
The football team had a big win over Omaha Bryan on Friday night. This game was hosted by Omaha Bryon and the score was 49-0.
Volleyball played a home invitational on Saturday. They lost to Grand Island but then won against Bellevue East and Omaha Burke. Overall, it was a pretty successful day of volleyball games.
Softball also competed in a tournament last Saturday. According to MaxPreps, the varsity won over Lincoln Northeast, 5-2, but lost to Norfolk, 0-13, and Kearney, 3-8.
The weekend of October 4-5 was definitely one for the books in the sports world.
