Hurricane Milton struck Florida’s west panhandle on Wednesday night and was a devastating Category 3 when it hit. During its travel over the land, it reached Category 5 conditions. Along with the hurricane conditions, many tornadoes were caused as well and led to a higher death toll than the hurricane itself.
This situation is dire for those who are directly affected, but those not directly affected are asked to help out. Here are some ways to help out the survivors of this disaster:
Donate Blood:
This is a huge contribution that is constantly requested of people, but it is for a good cause. To help survivors recover, the American Red Cross medics need as much blood as possible to allow them to cater to everyone’s needs. If you are willing and able to donate, please do!! Here are a few ways you can.
- November 6: CHS Blood Drive
- There will be an in-school blood drive on this day, and many spots are available. Students will be dismissed from classes during the time frame they choose to donate blood.
- Thursdays: Red Cross Blood Drive
- First United Methodist Church hosts a blood drive every Thursday from 11am-6pm. Contact them for more information and to schedule an appointment.
- Tuesdays: Norfolk, NE
- Each Tuesday of the month, there is a blood drive held in Norfolk from 11:30am-5:30pm. Contact them to schedule an appointment.
Donate to the Relief Efforts:
If you are unable, or unwilling, to give blood, another way to help is by donating to relief efforts. Here are a few ways you can do so.
- American Red Cross
- American Red Cross has started a donation center for Relief, and you can donate directly to them. You can donate whatever amount you would like, as any is greatly appreciated!
- Habitat for Humanity
- Habitat for Humanity is ready to deploy their efforts as soon as they are able to. Their goal is to help the communities that are affected, and are willing to help at any cost. To help fund their cause, visit their website and donate what you can.
Keep Them in Your Thoughts and Prayers:
Some people are unable to help directly, and that’s ok. You can just keep the people affected in your thoughts (and prayers if you are inclined). Posting on social media and telling your friends are both ways to spread awareness!
