Up next in our Teacher Tuesday series is Mr. Arasmith. Arasmith is the new Workplace Experience teacher. He is also in charge of Job Shadowing and Apprenticeship. This is his twenty-seventh year of teaching but his first at CHS. Before coming here, he was the FCS teacher at St. Edward Schools and in the Nebraska Army National Guards for twenty-four years.
Arasmith grew up in Columbus and attended Scotus Central Catholic High. After graduating high school he went on to the University of Nebraska-Kearney. He has one daughter with his wife of thirty-seven years and two grandchildren. He and his wife also have two dogs and a cat. Arasmith loves gardening, cooking and canning salsa and pickles. He is a huge Johnny Cash fan and is a football and basketball officiate.
When asked what made him want to be a teacher, Arasmith responded with, “My mom passed away when I was a sophomore in school, I had several teachers/coaches who were very inspirational and influential to me at the time. It gave me compassion to be able to give back and be able to have a significant impact on students, inspiring them and helping them reach their full potential. And plus, you get your summers off!”
His favorite part about teaching is being able to make a positive difference in the lives of students, sometimes even transforming a student’s life and to experience the joy of seeing a student succeed and develop, knowing you played a role in their success. Forming meaningful connections with students and staff, sharing outside school happenings, relating to their personalities and creating important connections are more of his favorite parts.
