One club offered at Columbus High School is Educators Rising. This club is a CTE organization for students that have an interest in education-related careers. This is not limited to just people who want to work in a school district but also for careers like psychology or childcare.
Educators Rising explores careers and provides opportunities for personal growth and development in leadership. They meet outside of the regular school day in the IMC. At the meetings, they have an agenda of various education-related career topics. They have conversations about conferences or opportunities discovered recently. Also at every meeting they have many prepared activities if they want to do them.
Anyone in the career area is welcome to join at any time during the school year. If you would like to join, you can email Mrs. Fleming ([email protected]) or Mrs. Biggs ([email protected]). Asking another member about attending the next meeting will also get you to the right place at the right time. If nothing else, you can reach out to your counselor and they will know what to do.
Mrs. Fleming says, “We are a small chapter as it is not currently embedded within a course curriculum and would love to see more involvement.” One way to get involved with this career along with Educators Rising is dual credit courses. At CHS, we currently offer three dual-credit education courses through Wayne State. They can be taken as a junior or senior and if all three are completed, you would leave high school with 9 credit hours of education courses.
