“New year, new me.” The start of a new year has people talking about resolutions and the changes they hope to make, even though most people abandon their resolutions by February. The AnchorNews staff share their thoughts about New Year’s resolutions.
HANNAH: Personally, I have never made a New Years resolution and did not start this year. It always seems to be something that no one says they finish. I have always thought that it would not be a good use of my time. Instead I make goals, mostly short term, or just decide to make a change throughout the year.
Some of my specific goals currently are to improve my faith and create a good routine for the second semester. I am working on improving my faith by making it a higher priority throughout my day. Creating a good routine includes brushing my teeth every day, making my bed, and reading before bed. I try to reassess every night and make changes as needed. Now don’t get me wrong – I do not complete all of my goals and just have to start again. I hope this helps someone with their resolutions or goals for 2025.
HAZEL: I never really tried to make New Year´s resolutions but I could probably try this year with journaling and finally keeping up with creative projects (and also my homework and applications).
LEXI: This year, my New Year’s Resolution is to grow stronger in my faith. I want to do more devotionals and make a habit of praying every night, as well as reading my Bible. Another resolution I have made is to take better care of myself. I plan to do this by going to the gym more and eating healthier. I am going to try to achieve this by having a workout partner to hold me accountable and my family to hold me accountable on my other two.
I feel like every year I make resolutions and then forget about them the next day. I am tired of setting goals for myself and not following through with them, so this year I am working harder to complete these goals. So far, I am doing a lot better than I have in previous years!
SAVANNAH: For 2025, my New Year’s resolutions are not as simple as “go to the gym every day” or “drink more water.” This year, I made a bingo card of 24 goals and events that I want to achieve by the end of the year. Some of my favorite events/goals are: starting a photography business, placing at a dance competition, going to Disney World, and growing in my Christian faith.
I am TERRIBLE at keeping my New Year’s Resolutions, so I researched ways to keep yourself on track. Bingo cards came up as something trending, so I thought I would try them! So far – the small goals have worked super well! If you are feeling like your New Year’s Resolutions may fall through, the 2025 bingo card is for you!!
VIRGINIA: I have decided that I am going to focus on making myself a better person overall. I want to keep up on all my cleaning, like laundry and keeping my room neat. I also want to take more time for myself to understand what I need as I enter a new stage of my life, such as journaling.
I feel like everyone always has a grasp on what they want to achieve in the New Year, but they lose motivation or forget. In past years, I have caught myself in those struggles, so this year I kept a specific notebook for all my accomplishments and I check in at least once a week to see if I am keeping up with all I want to do.
KWAP: I used to make resolutions – usually about getting more exercise or eating better – but I’m definitely one of those people who doesn’t follow through. As I’ve gotten older, the only resolution I’ve kept is to not make more resolutions! I do think New Year’s is a time to reflect on the year that has ended.
