This week, Ms. Parker steps out from the stage’s shadows and into the spotlight, because today is her Teacher Tuesday!
Ms. Parker has been teaching for 10 years, and she has been working at CHS since the start. This year, she teaches English 9, English 11 Honors, and Theater 1, but she has taught a variety of different subjects in the past.
When asked about her favorite part of teaching, Parker stated, “My favorite part of being a teacher is getting to interact with students and have conversations about the books we are reading. I love hearing what students think about the novels and the ideas they come up with. Even after ten years, my students surprise me with new ideas and insights into the material. I love watching their minds at work.”
Ms. Parker got her education from the University of Nebraska-Omaha, where she studied Secondary Education with a Language Arts endorsement. Her favorite college experiences come from her roommates. During the interview, she talked about a tradition her roommates had where they would pull their mattresses out to the living room in their dorm and have a giant sleepover with pizza, candy and movies.
When she is not in the classroom, Ms. Parker is busy in the Theater department. She has directed the Fall Musical and Winter Play for the last eight years. If she is not in her classroom or in rehearsal, you can find her crocheting, embroidering, reading, or listening to a true crime podcast.
If you go to CHS Prom, stop by the snack table and say hi! She loves seeing everyone’s outfits!
