“The Eras Tour” by Taylor Swift, “The Quittin’ Time Tour” by Zach Bryan and the “We’ll All Be Here Forever Tour” by Noah Kahan are some of the most popular live events in the world. Each person has achieved fame through their breakthrough tracks and albums and sell out their concerts wherever they go.
However, there are many other types of music outside of this branch, and an unexpected, “underground” branch is what I am going to talk about today.
Ever since I was a little kid, I was always into movie musicals created by Disney like Moana, Beauty and the Beast, and Hercules. Blossoming from that love, I moved to a more mature genre – Broadway. Broadway music is as diverse as it comes – pop music, love songs, remixes of pop hits, ballads, and opera music are all genres within Broadway musicals.
Some common ones that many people know are Hamilton, Six, Newsies, Cinderella and Aladdin. These are popular because they can be accessed on the internet as well as in person. The musicals have also become popular through trends on Tiktok, where people make videos using short clips of the music.
Personally, my favorite musicals (at the moment), are Hadestown, Ride the Cyclone and Heathers. Ride the Cyclone and Heathers have incredibly diverse soundtracks and are a nice change from Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off.” Also, I had the privilege of going to New York this summer and seeing Hadestown live, and it truly was an amazing experience. Being able to watch your singer perform live and see their raw emotions is far superior to hearing it through your AirPods off Spotify.
While I do enjoy Noah Kahan’s “Stick Season” and Zach Bryan’s “Something in the Orange,” I think I would prefer to go see a Broadway show live in New York City!
