This week’s Teacher Tuesday is special as we’re highlighting Principal David Hiebner. He has been in education for 23 years, the last five years as principal.
Before coming to CHS, Hiebner was a teacher and a coach at Harvard Public Schools. After that, he became a counselor and coach at Centennial Public School, then he took a teaching position at Columbus High where he also coached. After eight years of teaching, Hiebner decided to leave the classroom and become the Dean of Students, which then led him to take the AD position before finally becoming principal.
As principal, Hiebner oversees the entire school and gets to help create opportunities for students and help the staff to have everything they need to be successful.
When asked what his favorite part about being the principal is, he responded, “My favorite part academically is seeing our students succeed when they didn’t think it was possible. Graduation day is also a great day and culminates the work that students and families have done.” He also mentioned the wonderful staff that he enjoys working with.
Hiebner grew up in and graduated from high school in Henderson, Nebraska, before going on to graduate from Bethel College and Wayne State College. During his time as a teacher, he taught Government, AP Government, and Law Education. Who knew! His time coaching was spent with the basketball teams.
