This week’s Teacher Tuesday is highlighting our very own media specialist, Mrs. Valerie Wallin.
Wallin has been a teacher for 31 years, and 26 of those years have been at CHS. She spent 16 years as an English teacher before becoming our media specialist for the last 10. Along with working in the IMC, Wallin is also the sponsor for Student Council, the senior class sponsor, and a teacher for Leadership and Ethics.
When asked what made her want to become a teacher, she responded, “I guess I wanted to become a teacher because I love school. Also, I had an English teacher in high school who really encouraged me to consider it as a career. Having someone believe in my abilities was powerful. I LOVE getting to be one of those encouraging voices for our students.”
Her favorite parts about teaching include getting to talk to students about books to read, giving essay-writing tips, teaching leadership skills and helping with future plans. She claims that it is “the best job in the world.”
Some fun facts about Wallin include that she reads about 40-50 books a year, she has travelled to 17 different countries, all three of her daughters are teachers in the CPS district, and her husband got second place in a bodybuilding competition in Arkansas at the age of 60.
