Another activity you may be interested in joining is color guard. The color guard is a part of the marching band, and they add visuals to enhance the show. They use dance and equipment such as flags, rifles, and sabers. Color guard requires lots of training with choreography in both dance and the use of equipment.
The marching band and color guard perform at football game halftime shows, parades, and competitions. In fact, the marching band, including the color guard, has their first competition on Saturday, Sept. 20.
Our CHS color guard team consists of 11 members, and six of them are seniors. The current captain is Sally Donoghue, and the co-captain is Kaylee Foster. This means that next year, if no new people join, then there will only be five members left, so if you are interested, please contact Jenna Snyder, the coach, at [email protected].
Color guard takes place in the fall, but there is another opportunity to be in the guard in the winter. Winter guard is very similar to color guard, but the difference is that there is no band involved, just dance and equipment. Last year was the first year CHS had a winter guard in a couple of years, and it was an awesome season! They went to the HWAA (Heartland Winter Arts Association) championships and WGI (Winter Guard International) regionals, which are all amazing competitions, just as color guard goes to competitions with the band in the fall.
Sally Donogue’s favorite part about guard is “All the friendships you make. Most of the time, the teams have the same people, but it just bonds us together more, and this bond helps us create amazing memories together.”
Have a great day, Go Discoverers.
