Here’s your recap for everything sports-related this past week.
Monday:
To start the week, the boys tennis team and JV football competed. The JV football team was able to secure a win against Seward in an extremely close 7-6 competition. The boys tennis team went out against Lincoln East and crushed them, outscoring their opponents in every singles and doubles competition.
Tuesday:
The Discoverers were very busy on Tuesday, as freshman football, varsity softball, and all volleyball teams took the floor. The freshman football team competed against our rivals, Fremont High, and had a fierce competition. Around the same time, varsity softball travelled to Omaha Central, and ended their losing streak by securing the victory against Omaha Central 14-10. Finally, the Volleyball teams went head-to-head at Kearney but unfortunately fell to the Bearcats.
Thursday:
On Thursday, only two events were able to take place – volleyball and golf. Softball was supposed to compete, but was unfortunately postponed due to weather. However, the Discoverer’s volleyball team delivered against Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson. Both JV and varsity secured wins, with varsity going three and out on their senior night. The varsity golf team did an amazing job as well in their competition at the Norfolk Invite. They secured a 3rd place team finish and multiple medals and personal bests. Great job, Discoverers!
Friday:
To end the school week, the cross country team, varsity football, and boys tennis travelled to their competitions at home and away. The varsity football team went against our long-time rival Fremont and secured the F&C Cup for another year, with the score ending 28-13. Similarly, our cross country team worked very hard at their Norfolk Invite. While the team didn’t do as well as some athletes hoped, many students on the varsity and JV teams pr’ed during the meet. To end the night, the boys tennis team travelled to the South Sioux City Invite, and varsity did amazing! In singles, Luebbe placed 2nd and Maguire placed 4th. During doubles, Kloke and Pelan were able to secure the 2nd place, and Steffensmeier and Wemhoff were just behind them in 3rd.
Saturday:
Two events occurred during the weekend for the Discoverers – varsity softball and MARCHING BAND! Varsity softball competed in a tournament where they competed against Bennington, Elkhorn and Norfolk, but unfortunately fell to each in a close matchup. Also, Marching Band participated in the Marching Band Festival in Kearney. The Discoverer Band secured 3rd place in the huge competition.
