FCCLA and FBLA are both activities you can join in CHS; they stand for Family Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).
FCCLA is advised by Mrs. Nielsen, who teaches FCS. There is an officer team that consists of two juniors and two sophomores. In FCCLA, you can compete in different STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) events and get a chance to qualify for the state and/or national competition. FCCLA focuses on FCS, so there are many events to choose from, such as baking, making old things new, informational and service projects, and many more! Last year, four students qualified for state, and from those four, two also qualified for nationals, which was held in Orlando, Florida. The students who went to nationals were Mya Davis and Jazmine Hernandez, who are also a part of the officer team. They had an amazing time and did very well in the events they competed in.
To join FCCLA, you can attend the informational meeting held sometime in the beginning of the year, where you get all the details. You can either join locally, meaning you can help with local service projects in FCCLA and attend certain conferences, or join nationally, meaning you can compete and are eligible to do just about anything.
FBLA is advised by Mrs. Tunink, who teaches career seminar and personal finance. In FBLA, you can also compete in different events related to business and education. There are conferences you can go to, just like in FCCLA. There are many similarities between the two groups, but they are distinguished by their respective focuses. The mission in FBLA is to inspire and prepare students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society.
FBLA provides students with real-world skills, leadership, confidence, and organization. It is very business-oriented, so if you are interested in learning more about business or education, be sure to check out FBLA.
Have a great day and go, Discoverers!
