Nikola Tesla
Tesla was a famous Croatian-American inventor who was awarded 300 patents for his inventions. Tesla was born on July 10, 1856, in Croatia. He studied in Germany, Austria and Prague. In the late 1870s, he went to Budapest. While Tesla was there, he improved some inventions and invented the induction motor, an AC electric motor in which the electric current is obtained with electromagnetic induction. Unable to interest people in his invention, he left Europe in 1884.
He worked with Thomas Edison for two months but parted ways after Edison did not pay him for his work. Tesla invented alternating current electricity and he discovered radar technology, X-ray technology, remote controls, and the rotating magnetic field. He designed one of the first hydroelectric power plants, which was used to power Buffalo, New York.
After Tesla’s laboratory burned down in 1895, he moved to Colorado Springs. Tesla tried to build a global wireless communication system but failed since doubt arose with his financial backers and he had to abandon the project. Tesla died of coronary thrombosis (a blood clot blocking the heart) at the age of 86 in a hotel in New York.
