This weekend was one of the longest for our dance team – it was Jam the Gym! For those who don’t know, these ladies work all day Saturday and Sunday to prepare to showcase their routines, as well as other teams from in the area perform as well.
This year, the theme of Jam the Gym was based on the game “Dress to Impress” on Roblox. The red carpet/fashion theme fit well with many of the dances and brought a Hollywood vibe into the gym!
On the Saturday of Jam the Gym, the Diamonds teach the Little Gems a dance to match the theme. The choreography was done by Savannah Klee, Raegan Roebuck and Larkin Westfall, and the music was cut together by Klee.
Overall, the Jam the Gym experience was amazing! Bystander Greta Roberts commented, “The talent is insane. You guys are incredible!” She is not the only one to have said this. Teams from Midland University, iDance Project, CCC Raiders, and Barb’s School of Dance showed off their skills and received many compliments.
Everyone’s favorite dance was performed by Diamonds in the Rough. In this dance, each Diamond has a male partner who dresses up in the Diamond’s old dance costumes. The partners do a goofy dance together that consists of TikTok dances, tricks, and handshakes. These boys have given up sleep on Wednesday mornings to come in and learn the dance, as well as working outside of the gym.
This routine is a fan favorite, and one of the Diamonds in the Rough’s sister commented. Aubrey Peterson stated, “I love performing myself, but really the best part is watching my brother do his dance! He practiced at home just to make sure it was good!”
