I don’t know about you, but Fall is my favorite time of year! The pumpkin patch, warm hot chocolate, and the beautiful foliage bring me so much joy. With the interviews I sent out for this article, I found out I am not the only one who loves this season. Many students love fall as much as I do and gave me their opinions on certain fall-related activities.
Overall, the students’ favorite fall activities are watching scary movies with 12 of the 38 voting that over everything else. Some of the favorite movies noted are:
Hocus Pocus 1 – Selene, JaRae, Maggie, Emma, Dylan, Keira
Scream 1 – Mr. Rose, Reece, Dafne
Coraline – Julissa, Jadyn, Ruby, Jay, Amelie
Halloween / Halloween Kills – Jenna, Alayna, Laitenn
Nightmare Before Christmas – Lee, Weston, Daniel
The second most popular fall activity is a creepy one — visiting haunted houses! While there were many names submitted, there was one that stuck out like a great big pumpkin: Scary Acres!! Over half of the students who submitted the form stated their love for Scary Acres, saying it is the “best haunted house they have ever been to!” Some others that were high on the list were Roca Scary Farms and Bloodrush. Any of these would be the perfect choice for your next haunted house adventure!
Steering away from the scary stuff for a while, I asked a few silly questions on the form to lighten the mood. The first question was this: “If you had to pick a teacher to lead you through a corn maze, who would you trust to get you through fastest?” Students really got into this one, and had some great responses! There were many teachers nominated for this activity-saving position, but one department holds almost every title: Math! Mr. Bethune, Mr. Johnson, Ms. Pelc, Mr. Sander, Mr. Vanden Bos, and Mr. Wemhoff received around 80% of the nominations. In fact, the math department was so sought after, Emily Mowrey did not even choose a specific teacher. She just said, “I think I would pick a math teacher because they are smart and probably know the math behind the maze.”
The next silly question was, “Who would win the pumpkin carving competition among all the teachers?” I hand-selected 10 teachers that I believe every student at CHS knows, and allowed each student to pick who would win (for obvious reasons I left the art teachers out of this race ). The competition was fierce, but two teachers walked away with the title: Ms. Kwapnioski and Mr. Krysl.
Finally, I investigated each student’s favorite fall snack and drink. While there were many great options for snacks suggested to me, almost every single one was pumpkin-themed! Pumpkin spice / pumpkin cheesecake muffins, pumpkin pie, pumpkin cookies, and the Pumpkin Pie Blizzard from Dairy Queen. However, there was another food that just kept coming in the ballots… caramel apples! Several decidedly swear by these delectable treats. Maddi Klee even said, “I look forward to getting caramel apples every year – especially at the pumpkin patch!”
The trend of pumpkin-flavored items also flowed perfectly into the drinks category. From Pumpkin Chai at Starbucks to Pumpkin Cremé Cold Brews at Scooter’s Coffee, CHS students love every pumpkin-y drink that comes to mind. Another huge trend within the population – apple cider! Almost every single student who responded mentioned apple cider, even if there was a pumpkin spice latte hanging its shadow over it. While the pumpkin and apple drink trend was understandably fierce, there were many unique drinks that were mentioned in this category.
Oat Milk Latte from Starbucks – Abby
Egg Nog – Colesen
White Mocha with Caramel Drizzle – Amelie
Witch’s Brew Alani – Kaylynn
As you can see, much of the student population is on the right path (wink, wink) because they believe fall is the best season of them all. I hope this article left you in high fall spirits as we head into our short week! Who knows? Maybe you’ll decide to bake a new recipe based on an item listed above or visit a haunted house recommended by your peers!
For now, let that fall mood bring you the joy you need to work until our long weekend! For more articles like this, make sure to check back on chsanchornews.org every day and follow @chsanchornews on Instagram. Go, Discoverers!
