Wrapping up the Valentine’s season, today we are going to make red velvet chocolate chip cookies.
What you’re going to need:
- 1 ⅔ cups of all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup of unsweetened natural cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 stick of unsalted butter or ½ a cup (softened to room temp)
- ¾ of brown sugar
- ¼ granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon of milk (buttermilk is preferred, but whatever you have is fine)
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
- Red food coloring
- 1 cup of chocolate chips (white or semi-sweet)
First, whisk your flour, salt, and cocoa powder together and set that off to the side. Now, cream together your sugars and butter. If you are lucky enough to have some form of electric mixer, use it; if not, well, use your arm and a dream. Once it is creamy, add in your egg and vanilla extract.
Now, slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Add the milk at this step as well. Once you have the dough, add in the food dye until you are content with the color. Once it is at the right color, add in your chocolate chips. If you are a fan of white chocolate, which technically is not chocolate, feel free to add it.
At this point, I recommend chilling your dough, but if you don’t want to, that’s okay, just know it will spread more once baked. If you do chill the dough, I recommend letting it chill for at least an hour.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Scoop your cookie dough into about 1.5 tablespoons, but who’s against a bigger cookie? Place them on the baking sheet at least 3 inches apart, then bake for 11-13 minutes.
That’s about it for this recipe; this is a nice recipe for you to make for yourself, or if you have a special someone, these are a nice gift.
I hope you have a lovely Valentine’s Day. Please come back to AnchorNews for your next great read!
