With so many artists out there, it is nice to see what is commonly listened to in Columbus. Having grown up with a vast musical experience, it is only fair that others get to experience that vast variety of musical artists as well.
Starting strong this week, we have Noah Kahan. Noah Kahan is an American folk/pop songwriter with some favorites in the school being “Call Your Mom,” “Mess,” “Northern Attitude,” and “The View Between Villages.” Having grown in popularity after his song “Stick Season” rose to fame in 2022, it is nice to know that people here listen to his music and have positive opinions of him. One of his CHS fans said, “He is the funniest person eva”
Kahan is from Stafford, Vermont, which explains why his music has more of a folk-like tone to it compared to other songs on the radio. The 28-year-old artist has grown since his album debut in 2019, Busyhead. Within the span of six years, his growing popularity has gotten him nominated for a Grammy in folk-pop music.
Let’s look at why some students chose this artist. Jalysa Parker says, “I really like his music because it has good meaning behind the lyrics, but especially ‘Call Your Mom’ and how it reminds you that even when it feel like nobody cares about you, there’s always someone out there that does and that the darkness does not last forever and you’ll find the ‘light’ again.” Parker’s words really show how important music can be to a person especially during difficult times.
This is a common theme throughout his fan base in the school. Monse Gonzalez had a similar response, saying, “I love Noah Kahan so much because of the emotion and stories behind his music. Each song, happy or sad, is telling a different story. His lyrics are poetic and honest and it feels very personal. He blends indie and folk sounds and those are two of my favorite music genres.” Gonzalez, entering her senior year of high school, has definitely found someone who uses her favorite genres.
Savannah Klee said, “I love him cuz he’s such a genuine person on stage and off stage, and his music is so beautiful. It has raw emotion that is hard to find in other styles of music, so he deserves all the love.” It is lovely to see this response from his fans, all of whom share the same affection for his music.
It is great to feature Noah Kahan as the first artist with his fans being this passionate about his music. Join us again on Sept. 25 to see the next artist, and maybe it will be your favorite.
