With Christmas coming up, many problems can arise, such as the need for winter clothing or gifts for families who cannot afford them for their kids. Columbus has options available for those who need a little help!
The Columbus Rescue Mission has what once was a garage, now a donation shed, that is right next to it. Anyone is welcome to donate anything, from clothes for men, women, and children, or items such as household goods. Hours to donate are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., minus Sundays. If you want to receive these items, you would have to complete a short form, but then, after that, you are free to take what you need.
The Simon House hosts a Santa’s workshop before the holiday season for parents to go in and shop for free items for their kids. The event happens for three days on Dec. 9-11 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the 10th.
Holiday Spirit Coop is an organization that helps hundreds of families each year. They give away free holiday gifts and food baskets to families in need. A family would need to apply before the deadline to get the items. The deadline for this year was Nov. 15, but it is a great option to consider for future years.
The Heartland Workers Center is hosting a Christmas event featuring toy giveaways, Santa photos, and other fun activities for kids and their families. Each child who is present is given a toy while supplies last. This will happen on Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Riverside Lounge in Columbus.
Even in tough times, there are still places that offer help for the Holidays. Be sure to also check out our Instagram @chsanchornews.org
