It’s Tuesday, and today we’re entering the social sciences department—one seldom visited by AnchorNews’ Teacher Tuesday—to visit Mr. Shea!
Shea is from Clayton County, Iowa, located in northeast Iowa. At a young age, he moved to Schuyler, Neb., but later returned to Iowa.
He attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa. He has received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s of Arts in social sciences. He is still taking classes with UIU; he currently has endorsements in all social sciences and as a K-12 Reading Specialist. He is in his last semester of working towards his Talented and Gifted (TAG) endorsement.
Shea chose teaching because he enjoys helping students learn how to think critically and to understand the world around them. He specifically chose social sciences because they’ve been able to help him make better sense of how people, societies, and economies work. Teaching has allowed him to share this passion with his students. What he most enjoys about CHS is our strong sense of community and his freedom in the classroom to be creative and try new strategies.
Ever since coming to CHS, Shea has taught Economics. For the past few years, he has taught Sociology. However, throughout his time at CHS, he has taught many other classes: World History, US History, and Government.
Outside of school, Shea enjoys spending time with his family and friends, as well as following his favorite sports teams, watching movies/documentaries, reading historical non-fiction, and listening to music/podcasts.
Whenever you see him in the hallways, don’t be afraid to say hi!
