Good morning, Discoverers! Today, I am giving a rundown of everything seniors need to know for their final days.
Computer Checkout (Week of May 4) – During this week, seniors are encouraged to go down to the tech office to sign out their computer during homeroom or senior release, so they can be notified of any fees that need to be paid before graduation practice.
Honors Night (Wednesday, May 6) – Honors Night will be held May 6, starting at 7pm. If you are invited to the evening, you should have received an email from Ms. Loeffelholz, as well as a formal invitation in the mail. If you have not received any sort of invitation and have questions, email Ms. Loeffelholz at [email protected].
Minutes (Friday, May 8) – All detention minutes MUST be served by Friday, May 8, if you would like to walk at graduation.
Checkout (Tuesday, May 12 & 13) – During homeroom, all seniors will receive their checkout sheets. Beginning 4th period, students will request signatures from their afternoon teachers but not from their first 3 periods. The morning of the 13th is when students will get their morning teachers to sign off their pink sheet before checkout begins in homeroom.
Graduation Walk (Thursday, May 14) – Graduation walk will be on Thursday after seniors checkout. Watch your email for information and a signup sheet regarding the walk!
Graduation Practice (Friday, May 15) – Practice will begin right at 1:00pm on Friday, so plan to arrive by 12:45pm to have time to find your seat before you begin. Graduation practice should only take around 2 hours, but students wanting to participate in the ceremony are required to attend this practice to walk at graduation. Students with activities during this practice will receive alternative instructions by email.
Graduation Day (Sunday, May 17) – Doors will open at 2pm on the day of graduation, and seating is first come, first served. Family members (limit 6) are allowed to sit along the east and west sides of the gym. All other family members will sit in the Anchor to the north of the gym. The graduation will be livestreamed, so all unable to attend in-person can still watch!
On graduation day, only honor cords and awards provided by Columbus Public Schools may be worn. Also, students are unable to write any messages or have symbolism along their mortarboards. Underneath the gown, students are expected to wear dress clothes (like what you’d wear to a church). Finally, students will not be handed their diplomas when walking across the stage, just the covers. After the ceremony has finished, graduates will travel back to the auxiliary gym and receive their diplomas – if they are ready for them!
That is a lot of announcements, but hopefully you are ready to take on these last 6 days of school now, armed with some extra knowledge! All of this is posted in the senior Google Classroom, so reference the slideshow for any questions.
