Saturday, March 14, was my last Winter Guard competition. The show is called “Torero” meaning bullfighter in Spanish, and was very fun to perform.
My day started with getting up at 5 a.m., doing my morning routine, and making sure I had all I needed for the competition, such as my costume. Next, before heading to the school to get on the bus, I stopped by Starbucks and got a pink drink and a croissant to start my day. Next, I get on the bus and get comfy so I can take a nap before we arrive at the competition, which was held at Bellevue East High School.
When I arrived around 8 a.m., I immediately changed into my costume and started stretching for our prelim performance, which was around 10 a.m., and we were the first school to perform. After our run, we changed out and got lunch around 11 am at Chick-fil-A. My usual order is the 8-piece chicken nugget meal with lemonade, and it is delicious. After our meal, we returned to the high school and watched other schools perform. We also got to watch some alumni perform, which was very awesome!
At around 5 p.m. I had to get changed once again into my costume and touch up my hair and show makeup for our finals performance. We listened to our show music many times beforehand with our eyes closed to really get ourselves prepared for our performance– it definitely helps with the nerves. We then performed around 5:30 p.m. and did very well! Everyone got emotional because it was the last time we would ever perform with our seniors, and half our team consists of seniors, so it was very emotional.
After finals, we packed up and headed home for the day. On the bus ride home, I watched our finals performance video many times and saw how much our team has improved from our first competition, and I felt very proud. Our team has worked so hard from day one to memorize choreography and make our show the best it could be. I could not have asked for a better team for this season.
Around 8 p.m., we arrived at the high school, and then I headed home. At home, I met my mom, and she wanted to watch my performance with me again, so we watched it and again felt proud of how far our team has grown. Afterwards, we watched a show together, which was a mystery, so we were on the edge of our seats watching it the whole time.
To end my day, I completed my nighttime routine and headed to bed around 10 p.m. It was a very exhausting day, but very worth it in the end.
