It’s the beginning of the fall sports season. CHS tennis and volleyball are starting to have competitions this week.
Volleyball has a new head coach: Coach Hoenk. The JV coach is Mrs. Sliva, and the reserves and freshmen coaches are Mrs. Siemin and Coach Lisa. Hoenk said he’s excited for this season. “We had a tough-fought jamboree game, and we have a ton of talented players on the team this season.” Also, Hoenk said, “A few goals I have for this season are to have a serve receive rating of 2.0 or higher, for each player to enjoy their experience with the team, and to have everyone come together as a united unit.” It sounds like the season has already started for Columbus.
Sophomore Avery Bloeboaum said her goal for the season is “to build stronger team chemistry. As a team, we are hoping to get more comfortable playing together, and building team chemistry would help with that. My individual goal this season is to get better and faster on defense. As a setter, defense is very important, and I can always grow and improve on my defense.” We are so excited to see those goals on the court this season as well.
The coach for tennis is Coach Buthune. They have been working hard to improve anything they need, and have had tournaments all summer to show what talent they have this season. Bethune says, “This season will go as expected. We have a lot of new faces on varsity, so it will be a growing year. As the season progresses, the new players should show improvement and progress the way we want them to.” It was exciting to hear all the new people joining our varsity tennis team. Bethune also hopes to see “Lots of growth in everyone’s game and positive attitudes even when things are not going the way we want them to.” We are so excited to see those improvements on the tennis courts, too!
A new face on the boys tennis team is freshman Henry Luebbe. As this is his first season, his goals this season are “to get better at my forehand and to hopefully win the majority of my games, and to win at least one game at state.” Let’s make those goals happen and be cheering our tennis players this season.
These seasons sound fun to watch already, and they are just beginning. Let’s cheer these teams on to victory this season. GO, DISCOVERERS!
