Have you been caught up on your sports lately?? If you aren’t, here is what the Discoverers have been up to in the last week.
Tuesday, 8/26:
On Tuesday, the Discoverers were super busy during and after school. Girls Varsity Golf did incredibly well at their invitational in Beatrice. The Discoverers team was named runner up, as well as having 3 individual medalists: Molly Goc (2nd), Stella Sedlacek (6th), and Abby Jensen (7th). That evening, it was JV and Varsity Softball’s turn. The Varsity team unfortunately fell to Lincoln Southwest in their matchup, but we know they will come back fighting!
Thursday, 8/28:
While Wednesday had no special events, the same cannot be said about Thursday. The Girls Golf, Boys Tennis, Softball, and Volleyball teams were all out doing their thing. In the morning, Girls JV Golf competed at Elk’s Country Club, walking away with a personal best. While JV Golf was working hard at Elk’s, Boys Varsity and JV Tennis was across town at Pawnee Park. They were both able to secure the win against Norfolk; Varsity scored a 5-4, and JV ended with 7-5. Unfortunately, Varsity Softball fell to Omaha Westside in a close matchup. Even though the loss was unfortunate, Columbus was able to come away with many positives to the night, as some personal bests and new goals were achieved. Finally, JV, Reserve and Varsity Volleyball played against Fremont High. Varsity fell to Fremont in a 3-0 set.
Friday, 8/29:
Friday was a huge day for Columbus High sports. To start the morning, Boys Varsity Tennis arrived bright and early to compete in an invitational at Woods Tennis Center. Also in the morning, Varsity Softball travelled to Doris Bair Softball Complex for a tournament. The Discoverers went toe to toe with Lincoln Southwest once again, but unfortunately left with a loss (1-17). Though Softball’s day was not as promising as they would have hoped, the Girls Varsity Golf’s invitational in Kearney was absolutely incredible. The Discoverers took home first place as a team, and had multiple individual medalists. Stella Sedlacek was able to bring home the 3rd place metal, with Molly Goc right behind her at 5th and Abby Jensen placing 9th. After school, Varsity Volleyball Finally, to round out the night, the Varsity Football team was put to the test against our rivals in the Battle of the Maroons. Columbus fought hard and fair, and ended up winning against Norfolk 31-10, a feat that hasn’t been completed since the 2021 season.
Saturday, 8/30:
The only events that happened on Saturday were the Varsity and JV Volleyball Norfolk Invitational. Luckily for the Discoverers, Varsity was able to secure a 4th place win in this huge tournament. Great job, Discoverers!
