Bronwyn Prokopec is a senior and plays Snoopy in this year’s musical, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.
Prokopec typically wakes up around 6:35 a.m. and starts her morning routine, which consists of getting dressed, brushing her teeth, brushing her hair, washing her face, and, of course, eating breakfast. She usually eats avocado toast with an over-easy egg; she also drinks tea in the mornings of show week to help keep her voice in shape. She then leaves for school around 7:30 a.m.
When she arrives at school, she typically talks to her friends until her first period, which is Marching Band. She then has AP Lit with Kwapnioski second, and Captain’s Chorale for her third period. After that, she has lunch, homeroom, and—to end her day—she has College Algebra and New World before she gets out of school for senior release.
What Prokopec does before she goes to musical practice is a little bit different each day, as she gets bored with the same routine. Some days, she goes to the gym for about an hour and goes home or to the library to work on assignments. She might also go to meetings and unified bowling, depending on the day. She also likes to occasionally get dinner with her friends before she goes to musical practice at 6:15 p.m.
At musical practice, everyone starts with warmups, which can be physical, singing, or acting. Some days, they may just run the show music or choreography to try and make the show the best they can. Since it is show week, Prokopec and the rest of the cast go to the CMS auditorium at 5 p.m. and have full run-throughs of the show with costumes and makeup! After they finish the run-through, they take notes on what needs work, and they head home around 9 or 10 p.m.
It is hard enough to be a student, but to add musical, which is a big responsibility, on top of that, can be stressful. Prokopec balances both school and musical by “…trying to get all of my school work from the day done during my two senior release periods, which usually involves me going to the public library to do work, or just going home.” She also leaves some time to recharge and take a break from homework before musical practice, which is a great way to balance everything.
“My favorite part about being Snoopy is being able to carry on my tradition of being a comedic actress. As much as I love roles with a huge backstory or drama, I absolutely adore being the comedic relief in shows. Being able to do funny things on stage and making people laugh is what makes me rejoin the theater program every year.” Prokopec says this is what she enjoys most about playing Snoopy.
Some random facts about Prokopec are that she loves the color pink, Pokémon, and the summer. Her favorite food is any type of noodles, and her favorite animal is cats!
If you didn’t make it to last night’s show, you have two more chances today! The shows are at the CMS Nantkes Auditorium at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Hope to see you there!
