It’s time to get your head in the game… the winter sports season is starting, and today, we are featuring the boys basketball team.
Coach Sliva is eager to begin the season. He’s looking forward to seeing the progress the team has made since the end of last season, during the spring and summer. The team has put in a lot of work, so he’s excited to see them play. He expects them to play really hard together. He knows they’re capable of a lot; he said, “When games get tough, I am looking forward to watching our kids continue to play through it.”
It’s clear Sliva embraces the work hard, play hard mentality. I also spoke with a few returning members—all of whom happen to be sophomores.
Gavin Anderson says what he enjoys most about the season is “competing and hanging out with my friends. I love to compete with my friends and get better every day.”
Jaxson Vasicek said the same thing; he’s looking forward to playing the sport and being with his friends. When asked about how he thinks this season will go, he said, “I think the season will go well, and we have a lot of chemistry since we have all been playing together for a while, so I am excited to see what we can do this year.”
Blake Barnett also said he’s looking forward to being with friends – it’s clear the basketball team is like a family! When asked about his favorite part of being on the team, he said, “I would say our connection and competitiveness. Almost all of us have played together since we were in second grade, and our team’s connection has kind of always just stayed together, and that is what also causes us to be competitive and push each other to our limits.” He’s very optimistic about this upcoming season. He said that, despite how many seniors the team lost, he knows there are many people who will step up and help each other.
It’s looking like it will be a great season for the boys basketball team. Don’t forget to check chsanchornews.org daily for new articles. Follow us on Instagram @chsanchornews.
