Happy Tuesday, and welcome to this week’s Teacher Tuesday! This week, we’re immersing ourselves in the world of numbers and operations. That’s right, we’re headed to the math department. For today, let’s meet Mr. Johnson!
Johnson graduated from Norfolk Public High School and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He originally started as a civil engineer but switched to math education in his sophomore year because he enjoys working with people and building relationships. He later earned his Master’s in Math Education from Chadron State College (although he’s actually never been to Chadron).
This is Johnson’s 19th year at CHS. He teaches Algebra 1, Calculus 1, and AP Calculus. He notes that his favorite part of his job is “meeting students as freshmen and seeing how they grow and change over their four years.” Since he teaches Algebra 1 and has taught classes like College Algebra in the past, he has often had students come back around as they get older.
Outside of school, Johnson enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, whether they’re in their various activities or on vacations. He also notes, “I enjoy watching baseball and football. I also enjoy riding my bike and was able to log 1300 outdoor miles in 2025.”
That’s a wrap on this week’s Teacher Tuesday. Don’t be afraid to stop by Mr. Johnson’s room and say hi!
