Happy Saturday, Discoverers! In this preview of spring sports, we find ourselves on the green. That’s right—we’re looking at the boys golf team!
The boys are in for an exciting season! This year, there is an increased number of boys showing interest in joining—18 to be exact. The team has seven returners, including two varsity players: senior Carter Sedlacek and sophomore Bryce Brown. Many current members are competing for a position on the varsity team, including three seniors and the underclassmen.
Coach Robertson has high expectations for the team this year. As she notes, “There are big shoes to fill with the loss of three successful seniors: Keaton Barnes, Owen Lawrence, and Tyler Zwingman.” She also says, “Limited varsity experience will challenge the team early in the season, but if all continue to compete for varsity spots throughout the season, it should allow the team to compete for a top 3 finish at Districts.” She is also optimistic about Brown’s sophomore season, hoping he’ll make it back to State.
Her favorite part of coaching is watching the boys compete. It’s easy to play golf and not really think about it, but competitive golf really makes one step out and focus. She notes, “To have the chance to watch golfers develop into top competitive players who can step onto any course and compete is fun because you understand it doesn’t happen by chance, but through nothing but time and effort.”
Carter Sedlacek has been a member of the golf team since his freshman year. He notes, “I’m looking forward to the practices and spending time with my friends on the team. My favorite part of being in golf is my teammates and my coach; they have made golf something to look forward to every year.”
Tristan Smith has been on the team since his sophomore year and is looking forward to this upcoming season. He said, “I am looking forward to practicing with my teammates, the van rides to the meets, and the growth I will see over the course of the season.” He has also set some expectations for himself this spring. He remarks, “This season, I expect to be able to consistently shoot under 90, be a leader that my team can rely on, and have the most fun season of my high school career.”
It’s looking like it will be a fun season for the boys golf team! Let’s hope all the boys have a successful season!
