Track and Field is once again starting up at CHS. Some athletes have been preparing by doing some pre-season workouts here at the school. Now, here is some insight into how coaches and athletes are feeling about the new season.
Mr. Novak, the boys’ jump coach, has a goal for this season, which is “…try to finish in the Top 10 of Class A again.” Last year, as a team, the boys finished very well at the state competition for jumps, and Novak is hoping they can be successful once again this year.
For students who are debating if they want to join track, Novak has some advice: “…go for it! Even if track isn’t your main sport or something you have a lot of experience in, it’s going to be worth your time. It’s going to make you a better overall athlete for other sports, and the meets are a lot of fun.” There are also many options for track events, such as jumps, sprints, distance, and throwing, so there is sure to be something you enjoy!
Sophomore Sunday Engel said her favorite part about track is “the positive community you surround yourself with, which encourages you to reach your full potential.”
“Looking forward to getting out of school, eating a bunch of snacks, and getting to know and grow with my team” is what freshman Kierstin Staab is most looking forward to this track season.
Sophomore Selene Fang is excited for “…competing with my friends, enjoying the nice weather, and doing fun race day hair.”
Gennesis Diego, a junior, said “I am extremely excited for this year’s track season. I am looking forward not only to seeing myself improve, but also to my peers cheering each other on to become better athletes, and to hoping for the best this season!”
If you have any questions, you can contact Mr. Bethune, the head coach, via email, or attend the informational meeting on Tuesday, Feb 24, after school in rooms G231 for girls and G232 for boys. Have a great day!
