Did you know that a regular soccer ball has 12 black pentagons and 20 white ones? Well, now you do. Today, we are covering the CHS boys’ soccer team before their season fully starts.
The head coach is Mr. Beltran; the JV coach is Jorge Marino; and the reserve coaches are Antonio Bedolla and Anthony Aguirre.
Beltran’s goal for this season is to “…help our team grow technically, mentally, and as leaders so we’re better at the end of the season than we were at the start.” He is fired up to get the season started and to accomplish amazing things.
Junior Christian Coria, a returner, said his goal is to make it to the state competition, and something difficult about playing soccer is getting a tactic down.
Another returner is Andrell Velasquez; like Coria, his goal is also to make it to State. One thing he said is difficult is “…keeping a strong mentality all season.” His favorite part of soccer is simply the family-like bond he gets to share with his teammates.
“Helping players push through adversity, especially when they don’t yet see their own potential,” is what Beltran said is the most difficult thing about coaching. Seeing your players not being fully confident in themselves when you know they can be is definitely a wall to break down, but if anyone can do it, it is Beltran.
Thomas Abado, another returner, mentioned that one of the challenges of playing for him is maintaining a positive mindset throughout the season.
If you are considering joining soccer, then listen to what Beltran has to say: “Come out and join us. There are multiple opportunities to be part of the team year-round. If you enjoy being around us, then coming out in the spring should be an easy decision.” Well, you heard it from him. If you’re considering soccer, then definitely give it a try.
There can be many ups and downs during a season, but know you can always get back up! This season for the CHS boys soccer team is ready to get up and running! If you’re interested in joining, email Coach Beltran ([email protected]). Have a great day and make someone smile today!
