With winter activities coming to an end soon, it’s time to mention the CHS winter play.
The students are putting on the show, Ms. Frankenstein’s Monster, and are working towards bringing this show to reality this weekend. So today, we are going to see what the people in the show have to say.
This play follows the Frankenstein family many years after the first monster was created. One of the main characters in the play is Baron, the current Frankenstein family member, working towards creating a new monster. Yazhir Chavez, the actor who brings this character to life, was asked what he thinks he learned from being in theater. Chavez said, “Theater has taught me that not everything is as serious as it seems; it’s okay to laugh and have fun through hard work.” Honestly, this is what most activities should feel like for students. It is okay to find fun in challenging work.
Along with Baron Frankenstein, we have his sister, who is known throughout the play as Ms. Frankenstein, played by Bronwyn Prokopec. Her goal is to create a better creature than her brother. Prokopec said, “People should come to see Ms. Frankenstein’s Monster because it is an emotional and dramatic watch, with a lot of good laughs and twists for any type of person to enjoy. In addition to that, our talented team of castmates, techies, crew members, and our directors have put months of work towards entertaining you guys. It’d be a crime to miss it!”
Along with the two Frankenstein competitors, Dr. Fraulein is also an important character as she is the scientist who is bringing Miss Frankenstein’s monster to life. The actress, Malynn Slizoski, said that her hardest challenge so far in the show is the last-minute character swap. Slizoski said, “One challenge I have faced within this play is my last-minute role switch from a very minor one to a major one. With this, I had to memorize many lines within a short period. This challenge was difficult, however exhilarating, and I enjoyed the opportunity to play a much larger role in the play.”
Finally, Magdeline (Maggie) Luce plays Agatha Twisty. Agatha Twisty is an author who wants to write about the Frankenstein family’s creations. I asked Luce what her advice is for people who are too scared to try out for play. She said, “Just go for it! Don’t let your fear hold you back from missing out. Theatre is truly so amazing, and you meet so many people. I have learned so much through theatre, and if I had let my fear hold me back, I wouldn’t have made these memories with all the people in theatre. The things you learn and experience will stick with you. So truly just go for it. You will never know if you don’t go out for it.”
Now, let’s go to the director, Ms. Parker, of the play and see what she has to say she’s learned from her theater kids. She said, “Patience… but that there are reasons to do things outside of your comfort zone… if you just kind of go for what you might be thinking of, then really awesome things can happen, and you might find some new friends.” Honestly, I think that is everything to someone, and knowing that her theater program shows it every time and throws an amazing show together is truly spectacular
Don’t forget to catch the shows this weekend at 7 P.M. on Mar. 6 and at 2 P.M. and 7 P.M. on Mar. 7.
