Let’s dive into what the math department has to offer with Mr. Klaumann!
Klaumann is a Fairbury High graduate and went to Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska, for his degree.
Klaumann decided to major in math because he wanted it to be less scary for people. He said, “I realized math can be a very scary subject for some people, and I felt that I can bring sometimes some fun and some excitement… to make it a little less scary.”
With so many math teachers being coaches, Klaumann is the head coach for the speech team, taking over for Mr. Baue. If you are wondering what the speech team is, do not worry, I asked for you. “Speech is an NSAA-sponsored activity, not just a club. It’s asponsored activity that really just features kids giving speeches … they’ll either write their own speech and performance or find a script … some group events, but mostly there are individuals.” Like most NSAA events, the speech team goes to other schools and competes with their end goal to go to districts, then to state.
Finally, Klaumann is big on visiting state capitals and has already visited 20 out of the 50 so far! If you are ever feeling courageous, challenge him to GeoGuessr and see if you can win. If you haven’t seen it before, he’s scarily good at it!
Do you know what New York’s capital is without help? No, well, ask Klaumann, and he can probably help.
