Happy Tuesday, and welcome back to Teacher Tuesday! This week, we’re diving into the science department and taking a look at the life (later you’ll see why I chose to use this word) of Mr. Anderson.
This is Anderson’s fourth year teaching at CHS, but don’t be fooled; this is actually his eighth year here. He first attended CHS as a student and moved into the building we are in now during his senior year.
After high school, he attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney. He started as a pre-med student, but he switched his major to education in his junior year. He remarks, “In addition to my teaching and biology classes, I also had the experience of taking a class to get SCUBA certified and taking a basketball theory class from a former NBA player, UNK legend Tom Kropp.” Now—while on the topic—it would be remiss of me not to mention that Anderson played basketball in high school. Trust me when I say you should Google it—after you read this article, of course!
In his classroom, we get a great glimpse of life; he teaches Biology and Environmental Science. He has always wanted to help people and make a positive impact in their lives, so now he gets to do so by teaching a subject he’s passionate about.
In the spring, Anderson coaches the Unified Track and Field team. He notes, “Seeing the athletes on the team have fun and being able to have the experiences they do has been a joyful experience on my part.” Outside of school, Anderson enjoys helping out at his church, playing golf, and attending as many Nebraska sporting events as he can.
That’s it for this week’s Teacher Tuesday! I hope you enjoyed learning more about Mr. Anderson just as much as I did. Next week, tune in for another Teacher Tuesday as we stay in the science department to get a different glimpse of life—hint, hint!
