As many know, the Discoverers’ football game was hosted in Memorial Stadium in Lincoln this Saturday. This was a huge honor and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the kids!
Before the game, fans were graced with a message from Mr. Mike Flood, a Nebraska Congressman, and a performance by the Diamonds and Cheerleaders. They led everyone in the fight song and got every fan involved in Columbus cheers.
The Discoverers were down the first half of the game, trailing Fremont 7-21. During halftime, the Diamonds and Discoverer Band hyped up the crowd with their performances. After Columbus was done, Fremont performed for everyone.
The second half was close. However, thanks to Michael Voichoskie and Will Wickham, they were able to force overtime after tying the score 21-21. Fremont won the overtime coin toss, so the Discoverers played first. They secured the touchdown and the extra point.
Fremont matched the Discoverers by scoring a touchdown as well. They attempted a two-point conversion to try to win the game, but failed. As Fremont’s ball carrier got tackled near the 5-yard line, the Columbus crowd went WILD!
The Discoverers are able to keep the F&C Cup another year!
